Botanics All Bright Cleansing Face Wipes (review)

Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Face Wipes

Oh, dear, Boots. Did you think we wouldn't notice? Yes, the new-look Botanics range is nice, but not only have they raised the price of these face wipes (admittedly, by only a small amount) but they've reduced the quantity from 30 to 25! But let's not dwell on this little bit of profit-margin improvement, and instead focus on the effectiveness of what have been some of my favourite face wipes for a while now.

As before, Botanics have teamed up with Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew to develop their entire range of natural-biased products. Kew's involvement ensures that the plant extracts used are genuine and sustainably obtained and they provide independent reassurance on the science behind a product – even helping with product development. These wipes contain hibiscus which Boots claim is “nature's brightness booster” and the AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) present in the plant “act as mild exfoliators to help leave skin smoother and brighter.”
I've bought more Botanics wipes than I care to admit, because yes, they do leave my skin brighter. The cleansing aspect is among the best I've ever tried – gentle without any oily residue – and I never get blemishes or dry patches, my skin is left feeling soft and looking clear. Boots have really got the balance right with these wipes, but the icing on the cake is their ability to remove make-up. Even waterproof make-up. They really are excellent all-rounders.

The wipes themselves have grown in size to a rather large 23 x 19 cm, which means they're great for folding and swiping across different areas of the face. You can get a really good grip on them too (some other wipes have an oily film on them, which makes them slippery) but the 'facelifted' wipes do feel a bit thinner now; however they are still soft and strong and don't shred during use. They are very lightly fragranced, and smell Spring-like and fresh.

So, can we forgive Boots for their cheeky little price rise? Yes, of course. They are still excellent value for money and the fact they are also so effective means that ultimately you'd be hard-pressed to find any facial cleansing wipes that offer so much for so little. In fact, I'd state my next beauty haul on it.

I received a nice e-mail from Boots advising me that these wipes are, in fact, biodegradable as before, but the first lot of wipes mistakenly omitted this detail on the packaging.  This will be corrected on future batches.
