Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner System, Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner and Smooth & Shine Serum (review)

Gaby's Smoothed Hair
We've got something a bit different for you, today! Our good friend Gaby has written a review for Beauty Insignia on some affordable products she's been using to smooth her heat-styled hair. The basic content is the same as the other reviews, just from a different perspective. Click through to check out Gaby's thoughts on Suave's keratin-based haircare range.

I was struggling to find an affordable way to make my dry, brittle hair look healthy and smooth. I style my hair primarily with a flat iron (a cardinal hair sin, I know), and to protect it I like to use It’s A 10 Miracle Styling Serum, but at $25 a bottle, it’s not exactly cost effective. For the past several months my hair had gone without protection from the punishment I put it through every morning, and the damage was definitely showing. It was breaking, frizzy, and worse of all it was plagued with split ends and fly-aways.

Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner System
I’d recently seen an ad for the Suave Keratin Infusion Treatment 30 Day Smoothing Kit, and visited their website. They had a tool you could use to see if you had the ideal hair type to try their kit. I went through the questions and the result was that my hair was not the right type to benefit from this treatment, and thank goodness for that! This product has recently been recalled and is on the wrong end of a class-action lawsuit from plaintiffs claiming the product fried their hair to the point it was breaking off at the crown, and many users had to chop off their locks entirely after using it.

By the time I found out about the recall I had already purchased most of the other products in the Keratin Infusion line, and I decided my hair was in dire need of some help so I decided to give the golden bottles a whirl.
Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner
I just finished my 3rd week using this line of products, including the Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner, and Smooth & Shine Serum. I’m happy to report my hair is still on my head and is looking much better than when I started.
The shampoo and conditioner are very basic and easy to use. The smell is light and quite pleasant. The only issue with the conditioner is that it can be difficult to rinse it all out completely, so I would recommend using it primarily from mid-strand to the tips of your hair rather than slopping it on the top of your head. On their own these two products already left my hair a lot smoother and shinier. Even before styling my hair looked much healthier and my split ends were not nearly as obvious as before.
Smooth & Shine Serum
Before styling I use both the leave-in conditioner and serum, also applying from mid-strand to tip, and I comb my fingers through my hair from the root to apply any leftover serum to the dreaded fly-away area. Then I go to town with my flat iron and voilá! Smooth, shiny hair! It’s not perfect by any means but it’s definitely an improvement in the overall smoothness and softness of my hair. The fly-aways and general frizz seem to be controlled by a very light waxy coating left by the products, but not so much that hair looks dirty or oily. My hair is touchable and soft, and really shines in the sunlight. It’s looking better now than it has in years.
Considering the low cost (I got all four products for under $12!) it’s pretty obvious these are not exactly keratin products, rather products that include a small amount of keratin, so they can legally use “keratin” in the product name. However, for a girl on a budget I am very happy with my results.
