TRESemmé Instant Refresh Waterless Foam Shampoo (review)

TRESemmé Instant Refresh Waterless Foam Shampoo
I'm a massive fan of dry shampoos for two reasons – one: my hair is naturally oily, so needs refreshing after one day in order for it to look it's best and two: washing my hair too often helps to fade my colour, and no one wants that!

There are very few dry shampoo I haven't tried, as I go through them so quickly, but this waterless foam shampoo was new to me, so of course I had to try it. It's designed for dry, frizz-prone hair and promises to remove oil, impurities and odour from roots and moisturise lengths. Witch Hazel is included as an astringent with citrus extracts to refresh. Aloe Vera “replenishes moisture to improve shine and softness”. Sounds good to me!

In practice it's a little disappointing. The first time I used it my hair was probably too oily at the roots for the foam to be effective; it made my hair look lankier even after much blow-drying. I tried it again the next week and smoothed it through hair that was clean but needed refreshing after half a day in the city. I'm not going to pretend the waterless foam gave me any more volume or texture like a traditional dry shampoo would, but it did make my hair shiny and smell revitalised again.

It's so easy to use, too, and three pumps is just right for my shoulder-length hair, but would be overkill for short styles, so be careful. If you don't want to heat your hair up with a hair-dryer, I found gentle smoothing with a towel after use equally effective. It's also ideal for travelling as it's light – but keep it upright or in a bag, as product leaks out of the top if it's upside down!

It's the same price as TRESemmé's traditional powdery dry shampoo, and I would still choose that over this foam version for regular use, but if all you need is a quick refresh and your hair is not too dirty and naturally dry, the waterless foam is the one to go for.

YES!
