Good Things Fresh Start Creamy Cleanser (review)

Good Things Fresh Start Creamy Cleanser

Alice Hart-Davis, an award-winning beauty writer, has used her many years of experience to help develop the Good Things skincare range. Here we've got the wipe-off cleanser which like all Good Things products is advertised as free from parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, mineral oils and animal ingredients. So far so good. They also contain 'superfruit' extracts, in this case grape and pomegranate. There's also mango seed oil to help prevent your face from drying out and skin-calming cactus extract.

I would normally test a cleanser with its matching toner, but there isn't one available from Good Things. This isn't a problem, toners can be surplus to requirements anyway. I do wonder what age they're marketing this range at, though. Good Things is “specially designed to make the most of young skin...” Do they mean teenagers? I'm not one of those anymore! Needless to say my Mum – who is definitely not a teenager – tried it and felt it was too drying for her over 50 year old skin, even though it is in excellent condition!

The very fruity smelling cream is quite potent, which is at odds with the “gentle” claim on the packaging. It seemed to melt into my skin for an extra-deep, thorough clean, and when combined with my preferred method (and Good Things' recommended method) of product removal – a hot, damp muslin cloth or flannel – it left my skin tingly fresh without feeling tight or sensitive. If you do have dry or irritable skin then I'd use a cotton wool pad to remove this cream instead, as that is a gentler cleansing method.

When all the cream had been removed and I'd splashed my face with cold water, my skin looked very clear, very smooth and completely even-toned. Using this cream every night for a week even banished a couple of blemishes that appeared after a stressful week (which face cleansing wipes can't seem to do) – so I'm really impressed.

This isn't an aggressive cleanser by any means, but it is still quite strong, in my opinion, and I do wonder if it would be suitable for the driest skin types. If, however, you're like me with oily to normal skin then I'm sure you'll be fine and can enjoy the fruit fragrance and creamy formula with gay abandon, safe in the knowledge that your skin will look cleaner and fresher than ever.
