Korres Milk Proteins Cleansing & Make Up Removing Wipes (review) UPDATED

Korres Milk Proteins Cleansing Wipes - New Packaging

Most high street face cleansing wipes retail around the £3-£4 mark so for Korres to get away with pricing their Milk Proteins wipes at £7, they need to be very good indeed. They also have to compete with Beauty Insignia's current favourite wipes: Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Face Wipes, which excel in efficacy, value and natural areas.

Korres Milk Proteins Cleansing Wipes - Old Packaging
Korres's wipes are designed for all skin types and are gentle enough to use around the eyes, which I can confirm is true, having experienced no irritation whatsoever. They are dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested and are free from mineral oil, silicones, propylene glycol and ethanolamine. They can remove make-up, even mascara, and that's not just down to the cleansing formula but also to the design of the wipes. One side has raised bumps that help to deep clean your pores and grip make-up residue and pull it away from your skin to leave your skin looking brighter. These work well, although for heavy make-up you might want to use two wipes for a more thorough clean.

They aren't even drying, thanks to essential amino acids from the milk proteins which “offer nourishing and moisturising properties”. Soothing Aloe Vera and Vitamin B5 are also included and glycerine helps to smooth the skin. If you're short of time (or lazy, I'm not judging!) you can get away with cleansing with these wipes and skipping moisturiser altogether. My face felt perfectly comfortable without any additional creams. Although there is a downside. These wipes do leave a slight film on the skin, which eventually sinks in, but it does take a while if you have an oily complexion. I didn't find it a big problem, but it's worth mentioning if you prefer a really fresh feel after cleansing.

The (non-biodegradable) wipes are of an average size, but that oily residue I mentioned does mean they're slippery to hold. I also found that if I was too vigorous they shredded a bit, particularly over eyebrows or across the jawline. They're definitely not as strong as some cheaper wipes, but they do feel softer than most so it comes down to a matter of preference, really. The fragrance might sway you, too, they smell lovely and creamy. But make sure you seal the opening tab down carefully; mine lost its stickiness and had to be held down with adhesive tape towards the end to stop the wipes from drying out.

Only the price is my major sticking point. The issues I've raised can be dismissed as mere foibles if they were half the price, but when the average out at 28 pence a wipe – double the price of the current class leader – I can't help but recommend you look elsewhere. That is unless you have very dry skin, and couldn't care less about the cost!

It's been over three years since I last used these wipes so I thought I'd give them another go!  The wipes are no longer manufactured in China, they're now from Turkey and they've been slightly reformulated and repackaged in the transition.  The ingredients have altered and they feel less oily than before.  Their efficacy is as good as ever, though, and amazingly they haven't increased in price (although they were already very expensive!)I would still recommend them as much now as I did then.

Gentle, softening wipes
Very expensive
Natural ingredients
Not biodegradable
Good cleansing ability
A bit slippery to use
