Gucci Première Eau de Parfum (review)

Gucci Première Eau de Parfum
Gucci's owners, Procter & Gamble Prestige, are aiming Première at a slightly older crowd compared to some of their other recent releases with the hope that it'll be the female counterpart to Gucci by Gucci pour homme. The original Gucci by Gucci pour femme is too masculine for many and, according to vice president Luigi Feola, has become a bit of a niche fragrance. Première aims to solve this issue which helps explain it's more mainstream composition and the celebrity endorsement from Blake Lively – she of Ryan Reynold's wife fame.
When I first tried it I was surprised at it's initial vibrancy. It's not dramatic or over-the-top, per se, it's more of a determined statement scent that makes its mark right from the off. Top notes are bergamot and orange blossom and give the perfume a bright and spirited air. On the skin this fruity burst fades rather quickly, but thankfully what sold the scent to me were the warm and elegant middle and base notes. These are white flowers, musk, with a foundation of leather and wood. It is definitely a grown-up scent, but is still youthful enough for the lucrative 25 – 45 year old target audience.

It's pretty sensual, so it would be ideal for an illicit rendezvous or a date – but if you don't have one of those - and I don't! - it's also good for just making you feel more special if you're not feeling your fabulous self. Like bergamot essential oil, the perfume's bergamot note is revitalising and cheering, so I found it great for lifting me out of the wintry blues.

The bottle's lovely; it looks like a solid gold bar and has a chunky feel to it. Unlike a lot of perfumes, even the lid is somewhat weighty which makes the product feel pretty expensive. You can see through the gold bottle if you hold it up to the light, but it doesn't spoil the illusion of quality – it's one of my favourite new designs, and certainly stands out from the crowd.  I can't comment on the outer box because mine didn't have one (for this reason I can't include ingredients listings, either - apologies!).

Lasting power is about average for this price bracket (i.e good but not outstanding), but you can layer the fragrance with a rather expensive body lotion for £32.00. Other than the 30 ml size of perfume I have, there's 50 and 75 ml sizes available, as well as a purse-sized 7 ml vial for on the go touch-ups. The whole range is pricey, so do test the fragrance properly before taking the plunge, as Gucci Première will be a very expensive mistake if you go off it.

More wearable than Gucci by Gucci pour femme
The most expensive fragrance we've tested so far!
A happy perfume, like an anti-depressant

Good-looking, classy bottle stands out
