Botanics Instantly Volumising Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

Botanics Volumising Shampoo & Conditioner
One of the things I love about the Botanics range from Boots is how it brings more natural (and some organic) cosmetics into the reach of a far wider range of customers, some of whom might not usually be able to afford natural products which tend to be a bit pricey. But with Botanics being stocked in Boots stores (there are about 2,500 in total!) an affordable, natural range is more accessible than ever. The Botanics hair care range has been cut down in recent times, though. The red, brunette and blonde versions have been discontinued, leaving just the hydrating range and volumising range tested here.
The Instantly Volumising Shampoo is designed to 'give body and bounce' and works best for flat, flyaway hair. (Volumising shampoos are also good for greasy hair because they clean gently but don't add any oily residue.) The flip-top lid of the shampoo bottle is easy to use, although the white packaging prevents you from seeing how much product is left. And you won't want to run out because this is a really good shampoo. The transparent formula is certainly gentle, but still lathers well and feels like it's lifting dirt and oil away without much effort. Needless to say I experienced no irritation.

The conditioner is equally impressive. The white cream can be worked into hair easily and doesn't drip, so you can pile it on top of your head for 1-2 minutes and get on with other things to get maximum effect. It rinses out easily, and left my hair feeling noticeably softer even when wet. When dry my hair looked naturally shiny, felt healthy and while it was bouncy, Aveda Invati Exfoliating Shampoo & Thickening Conditioner gave my hair more texture.

With a bit of tweaking the ingredients listings could be equally impressive. 'Parfum' is included, but the scent of the products isn't anything to shout about so I'm sure Boots could easily reformulate. There are no parabens, and the shampoo is made without SLS/SLES. As with all Botanics products, both shampoo and conditioner have been made with input from Kew Royal Botanic Gardens and include cleansing quillaja extract, also known as Soapbark.

At this price you really can't complain especially when both shampoo and conditioner deliver such good results. With any luck this revamped Botanics haircare range will be more successful so Boots can expand it again, as I'd love to get my hands on some red hair care products!
