Avon Solutions Sensitive Botanicals Soothing Gel Mask (review)

Avon Solutions Sensitive Botanicals Soothing Gel Mask
I'm sitting here, wearing this face mask as I type this review, trying to think what it actually does. I know what its claims are, but in my experience manufacturer's claims don't always tally with the product's real life performance! The packaging blurb says this gel-like mask is 'soothing' and can 'restore skin's healthy complexion'. That's it! There isn't room for much more because Avon pack so many different languages onto their packaging.  The Avon website does go further and says that this 'refreshing mask removes impurities and replenishes skin to leave it looking healthy'. But as I look in the mirror, I'm struggling to verify any of these claims.

Let's get back to basics. The mask is a transparent gel with a vague cucumber fragrance, a bit like the matching Gentle Day Moisturiser.  The tube has a simple to open flip-top cap and the gel squeezes out really easily.  I like the texture and the smell and find the gel smooths easily over my face and neck and stays in place, even if you apply it thickly. Once it's on, leave it for about ten minutes and wipe off and rinse - I use a soft facial cleansing sponge for extra deep cleansing.  And you're done.

It is not in the slightest bit irritating, even on freshly waxed eyebrows which is a relief after the rather strong Rejuvenating Facial Cleanser brought tears to my eyes (as did the Vitalising Eye Cream, strangely). There's no tingling and because it doesn't dry on your face like some masks it doesn't cause any uncomfortable tightening sensations. It rinses off very easily, leaving no residue. I've used this mask six or seven times now and can assure you that it doesn't give you spots. (It doesn't help clear them up, either.)

The problem is there aren't any obvious benefits. Unlike masks with penetrating clay, zinging herbs or nourishing honey this mask doesn't appear to either moisturise, deep-clean or revitalise. At my most optimistic I could say it's refreshing and it is quite soothing – especially if you keep it in a cool place – but how much of that is down to the actions of applying and removing a mask, instead of the mask itself? In this case I really can't say.

But I don't want to be too negative as it's not horrible to use at all; it's a perfectly pleasant product and can just about justify its existence more than the pretty pointless Repairing Serum, but I'd never buy it again simply because you can have the pleasure of pampering masks with actual benefits. Avon Solutions Sensitive Botanicals Soothing Gel Mask doesn't offer that, which unfortunately also means that the price, while seemingly reasonable, simply can't be justified.

Suitable for all skin types
Doesn't really do anything!
Nicely refreshing gel is quite soothing
Poor value for money considering lack of performance
Easy to apply, and stays put

Bursting with natural extracts
