Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Spot Treatment Gel (review)

Clinique Anti-Blemish
Solutions Spot
Treatment Gel
If you haven't met Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Spot Treatment Gel before, say hello to this firecracker of a product. I've come back to this product time and time again, and here's why: it not only treats the spot, it promotes healing and resurfaces the skin to speed disappearance. And it does it in a way which you can feel from the moment you apply until it dries. You just know that it is doing something.

This product is designed to be used during the day. It can be used alone or applied over make-up. The beauty of this product is that it doesn't take long to work. Without make-up the gel dries with a slight shine so if you put it on in the morning before leaving for work it might be ever-so-slightly noticeable; but really, if someone is looking at you that closely, you'd be silly not to chalk it up as a compliment.

I've noticed that sometimes it turns a milky-white hue for a minute or two until it dries completely, which might look a bit odd if you're applying it quickly during an intra-day touch-up, and come out of it looking like you've spilt yoghurt all over your face. However, very few people would need to apply more than once in a day, so this shouldn't be an issue.

This is the kind of gel you use to heal spots once they've arisen. You don't use it as a preventative, so if that's what you're looking for you'd be better trying the rest of Clinique's Anti-Blemish Solutions range, which includes cleaners, moisturisers, and specific treatments.

The product comes in a 15 ml tube that lasts forever (well, nearly). It can be kept for 24 months once first open and I'd be very surprised if the product has been used up by then. The tube is a flexible kind of plastic that's gym bag friendly and is light enough to slip into a handbag. The tiny nozzle is ideal for application straight onto the face. This makes it incredibly economical, even at its £14.00 price tag.

Spot Treatment Gel's ingredients include failsafe resurfacer salicylic acid, astringent witch hazel, soothing and healing sea whip extract, and skin-protecting laminaria saccharin extract, and antiseptic benzalkonium chloride.

Clinique, for me, get extra bonus points for creating a product that works, and which they advertise ethically in a way that focuses on the benefits of the product, without resorting to the low-blow trash of the kind some other spot treatment brands peddle. A note to any of our teenage readers: The boy can get the girl even if he has a spot. These other brands probably know this too, but they want your money so create adverts to both make people feel insecure and then promote their product as the solution. But, not Clinique.
