Avon Solutions Refreshing Cleansing Wipes (review)

Avon Solutions Refreshing Cleansing Wipes
No one could accuse me of not giving second chances. If you've been reading this website for a while you'll know I've not been overly impressed with a few of Avon's skincare products, but I can't resist trying something that catches my eye when I'm placing an order from their far more reliable fragrance range. That's one of the pitfalls of shopping, I suppose; you go for one thing and come out with ten.
There is, generally speaking, one particular kind of product that very few manufacturers get wrong – face cleansing wipes. They're quite simple: a cloth impregnated with cleansing lotion in a plastic pack which is easy to use and oh so convenient. I love them, so couldn't resist trying Avon's take. They're called Avon Solutions Refreshing Cleansing Wipes and they come in a pack of 25 and are priced at £4.00.
We don't get off to a great start: the wipes are pretty small. They're also very thin and flimsy, so you need to fold them to get enough cloth to grip properly, which inevitably makes them even smaller. They also shred far too easily. At least they are very moist, with plenty of lotion included, so they feel like they're really cleaning deeply when you swipe them across your face.

Do be careful around your eyes, though. Despite Avon insisting these can be used “around eye area”, I wouldn't. Like when I used Avon Solutions Sensitive Botanicals Vitalising Eye Cream SPF 15, My eyes reacted to this product, although not as badly. They stung more than they burned, which is an improvement, I suppose, but it was more than enough to make me wary.

On a more positive note, Avon also say they will make your face feel “refreshed and cleansed” and are “gentle for everyday use” and I found both these statements to be true. (Excluding the eye sensitivities, of course!) I didn't experience any dry patches and my face felt fine after use, with no tightening. They are also wet enough to remove waterproof make-up.

If you do want to try them then wait for a multi-buy deal or price reduction. At full price they're costlier than some far better rival wipes and are simply not worth the money. It's not even as if you're getting a bag pack of wipes: 25 is distinctly average these days. If they were genuinely natural then perhaps that could justify the price, but they contain only one plant extract (which is the last ingredient in the listings) and a few undesirable ingredients higher up. The higher up the list an ingredient is, means there's more of it. Not a good show.

A mixed result then. Despite being dermatologically tested (which as you'll read here, actually means very little) and despite the use of words and phrases such as 'gentle', 'everyday use' and 'hypoallergenic', my eyes did not take kindly to these cleansing wipes at all. While they cleaned the rest of my face well, if you can't use wipes around your eyes, they're not time saving. Coupled with the less than stellar value and addition of 'parfum', means I won't be buying them again and I'm not sure you should bother in the first place.

Nice and moist for effective cleansing
Stung my eyes and fell apart
Didn't dry my face out
Could be better value for money
Certainly refreshing
Contains 'parfum'
