Korres Almond and Linseed Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

Korres make some really lovely products which are all firmly aimed at the premium end of the market, but when it comes to shampoos and conditioners all companies are treated equally! Having a luxury branded haircare range doesn't cut it, they have to deliver on their promises and Korres have made some big ones.

Korres Almond and Linseed Shampoo & Conditioner

The Almond and Linseed range tested here is for dry/damaged hair. My hair does, admittedly, veer towards oily rather than dry, but I sometimes like to indulge it after using damaging hair colourants! Korres claim this nourishing range can help prevent split ends and breakages and can “moisturise and restructure dried hair for easier styling” while “helping control static and prevent frizzy hair.”

84.7% and 92.5% of ingredients are natural in the shampoo and conditioner, respectively. Organic plant extracts are also included in each product, but Korres don't specify which ones. Each are free from mineral ingredients, parabens, propylene glycol etc. (this is listed under Formula Facts, which Korres helpfully include in all their labelling). SLES and parfum are used, though, which is disappointing. None of Korres' range is tested on animals and the packaging is fully recyclable.

This range didn't weigh my hair down, but did help to smooth out some of my more vigorous curls. While my hair wasn't as bouncy as I find it is with volumising products, it was very shiny and most definitely softer. The shampoo itself is mildly nourishing, so I felt that on my oilier hair I didn't need to apply much – or any – conditioner to the roots, but on my ends I left it on for the full two minutes as stated in the instructions. While not as moisturising as intensive treatments, the caring effects are still very impressive.

I ended up finishing the conditioner off quite a bit before I'd used up the shampoo. There are two reasons for this: firstly, it's 50 ml smaller, secondly, the shampoo lathers very effectively meaning you really don't need much at all. This helps to justify the price... a bit. While the range is expensive (and the containers are on the small size) they both should last you quite a while if you ration the conditioner a bit.

You'll enjoy using them, though. They smell divine – very creamy, with strong overtones of almond milk; it's all very luxurious. The textures are also fabulous. The shampoo's beige-coloured lotion, which has the consistency of whipping cream, is a pleasure to use and the pure white conditioner is super soft and melts into hair effortlessly.

If only the packaging was better. While the overall look is fine, three different languages are crammed onto the labels. Because of this some of the font sizes are too small for those with imperfect sight to read without glasses – and who has those in the washroom? Worse still, a bizarre range of colours are used, including very pale green over white, and writing veritably hidden over pictures. The shampoo's cap is tricky to flip open if you're not dexterous, too, but the conditioner's is fine.

But don't let those negatives put you off.  I really like this range - see the five-star efficacy rating below! - but it is rather expensive.  I'd completely understand if that alone is enough to put you off, and unfortunately for Korres there are cheaper brands that perform just as well.  Why not check out our Top 5 Hair Care Products 2013 for other products we rate really highly?
