Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub (review)

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub... Yum!
I don't know if it would be fair to say that this product is too simple. Simple, after all, could be a walk in the sun, or an evening spent watching the stars, or 80% cocoa solids. And they're all wonderful things. Simple isn't necessarily bad, then. Simple in this case means no added nasties and instead just pure, tasty, natural, vegan goodness.

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub contains castor sugar, jojoba oil, sea salt, polenta, coconut oil, popping candy and flavour. I don't think an exfoliator needs any more than that, really. You've got the emollients, the softening oils, the manual exfoliators in the form of sugar, salt and polenta, and the flavouring to give it a luxurious edge. It has a nice, caramel aroma, and Lush say that you can lick it off after you've rubbed it gently into your lips. I was going to anyway.

Popcorn comes in a 25 gram glass pot with a plastic lid. It is a little heavy, but after all, this isn't the kind of product that you'd take around with you. Whilst it undoubtedly makes for smooth lips - with instant results - nobody should exfoliate too much. Leave this at home and take a lip balm out and about.

During massage this product is only mildly moist and invariably a little product flakes off. I don't mind that, though, because there really isn't a mess-free way to exfoliate the lips. It lasts on the skin long enough to exfoliate, which is good news because some sugar and salt-based exfoliators dissolve in water quite quickly. And, yes, it really does leave my lips soft and de-flaked. Following with a lip balm is pretty much a necessity, however, because lips need extra moisture after exfoliation.

Popcorn is a luxury. One look at the ingredients and it is clear that one could make something like it from the ingredients in even the most scarcely-stocked kitchen. A little olive oil and sugar would do a similar job. Nobody needs Popcorn. But if, like me, you agree that good skincare can be about pampering and fostering good feelings, then you might also agree that this is a great little addition to anybody's skincare arsenal. For me, it is a ritual: I get into bed, slather on a good-quality hand cream, massage Popcorn into my lips, lick off what's left, put on my favourite lip balm-and then I know the day is done.

Lasts forever
A little expensive, really
