Trevor Sorbie Volume Big Hair Powder (review)

As much as I love styling powders, application can be tricky. Applying the powder directly to your hands can leave them sticky and your hair lacking in product (plus if you have long hair like me you'll find this method particularly difficult). Squirting the powder in a stream directly onto your hair can make distribution tricky, while some sprinkler systems leave you with glaring white patches. Trevor Sorbie has the answer!
Trevor Sorbie Volume Big Hair Powder

This Big Hair Powder is unique – as far as I know – in offering a specially designed tapered top and a flexible bottle. When you gently squeeze the bottle the powder puffs out in a light, cloudy mist making application easy peasy! One puff excretes just the right amount of product so you can direct the nozzle where you like, safe in the knowledge that you won't overdo it. The cloud isn't heavy, either, so you can puff away until you get the desired finish.

The only issue I have with its performance is the whiteness. It's not bad if you're careful when working it in, but if you slack on the tszujing you might garner unfavourable comparisons with Miss Havisham and her dusty mop. At least the final result is fashionably matte. You also get what Trevor Sorbie describe as “an amazing, gritty texture” aiding with a back-comb effect (a practice I wouldn't ever recommend) as well as making up-dos effortless thanks to an abundance of grip.

It is quite expensive – there are much cheaper similar products out there – but the high quality, easy-to-use and great results make this a worthwhile purchase. I'd prefer more per pack as 5 g is a bit stingy (you get double that for two-thirds the cost in Schwarzkopf's excellent Got2B POWDER'ful version) but if you keep an eye out for one of the regular offers you should be able to keep the costs down. Let me put it this way: I'm already on my fourth bottle of Big Hair Powder, so I definitely think it's worth it!

Effortless application
Rather expensive
Super texturising
Can leave ghostly white patches
Helps achieve massive hair
