Solarsport Dry Sunscreen for Skin and Scalp (review)

Solarsport Dry Sunscreen for Skin and Scalp
This product is a little bit exciting, if you ask me. It solves what is - for some - a very big problem: when hair starts to thin, or has naturally always been thin, sunburn on the scalp, hairline and parting can burn and age. Traditionally, there have been only a few ways around this: Wear a hat (but hats don't suit everybody), wear sun lotion (but sun lotion is often thick and shiny and you can't easily apply it to those areas), or burn. And that was it, really.

Solarsport Dry Sunscreen is an innovation, then, because it provides a solution. It comes in a non-aerosol spray bottle which allows one to apply the product in a fine mist (so fine in fact that it isn't necessary to massage it in - it has a lovely, even coverage as it is). Although it applies as a liquid, it soon evaporates and leaves an impressively dry sunscreen that one wouldn't know was there, other than for the sporty fragrance. Hair doesn't matte or clump together and it doesn't look thinner than before. It is just protects with SPF 15, three-star UVA sun protection.

I don't think that SPF 15 is necessarily enough if you're playing winter sports, spending a long time outside, or you're in the midday sun. However, it does work as a great daily protection and it'll be a skincare staple for me during the summer months (and let's face it, the winter months too). The product is also available in an SPF 30 carnation at the same price.

The handy 25 ml bottle will fit easily into a bag or suitcase if you're taking it away with you. Solarsport say that one bottle can last for 200 sprays, which sounds like a reasonable amount to me, if it's just being used in a small area like the scalp. The spray has a non-aerosol design meaning that it is more likely that airlines will allow you to put it in your suitcase. And it's so small that it won't mean you have to choose between sun protection and an additional item of clothing.

The ingredients in this product are as trimmed-down as they can be. For this kind of cosmetic you really don't want any more ingredients than necessary, because for every additional ingredient the chances of the product building up in the hair increases. And it doesn't need any additional ingredients, really, because it is great as it is.
