L'Occitane Bonne Mère Gentle Honey and Milk Body Washes (review)

L'Occitane Bonne Mère Milk Body Wash
These 600 ml, pump-action body washes are the best value shower creams L'Occitane sell. Even at full price on a per 100 ml basis, they work out cheaper than other L'Occitane body washes, even those on sale. They still cost more than your average natural High Street option, but being L'Occitane products, they're still indulgent.

They're handy, too; that pump dispenser making usage easy – there's no need to pick up the bottle. Both feature gorgeous smelling and luxurious feeling formulas that help to justify their extra cost over, say, the fragrant Korres alternatives.

Lathering isn't a problem, unsurprising considering they contain both sodium laureth sulphate AND sodium lauryl sulphate, but they didn't dry my skin out at all, partly because they're pH neutral. Neither did they leave it feeling hydrated like they claim. L'Occitane say the Bonne Mère range is suitable for the whole family (including children over three) which explains its value-led marketing position.

L'Occitane Bonne Mère Honey Body Wash
My favourite of the two fragrances is milk (white mallow milk rather than cow's milk!) as it has a calming, subtle sweetness which leaves you smelling beautiful. Honey is stronger but by no means off-putting, it'll come down to personal preference. Either way the fragrance comes from 'parfum' which L'Occitane assure is hypoallergenic, but they don't identify what's in it.

From an eco point of view the plastic containers are made from environmentally-friendly vegetal plastic and are completely recyclable.  Unfortunately, there are numerous languages crammed on the back of each bottle (mostly English and French) which can be a trifle confusing, but at least they do include Braille which is typical of L'Occitane.

While enjoyable to use with some really lovely fragrances, they're overpriced for what they are. While L'Occitane's amazing Almond Shower Oil feels more worthy of its price, the Bonne Mère collection doesn't. Still, it's made me want to try the rest of the Bonne Mère range, though, especially those multi-tasking moisturising creams or their numerous different scented soaps!

Really beautiful, subtle fragrances
Contain SLES, SLS and parfum
Handy pump-action dispenser for ease of use
At the cheaper end of the range they're still overpriced
Cleans easily and effectively

Big sizes last for ages
