Dr. Hauschka Lavender Bath (review)

The hotel I stayed in near Yeovil for my cousin's wedding was, to put in bluntly, rubbish. I went for the second most expensive hotel of the three nearest the venue yet it ended up being the most soulless, old-fashioned, run-down establishment I've ever come across! Lesson learned: don't trust the pictures.

Luckily I always travel with copious amounts of toiletries to pamper myself with and this time, purely on a whim, I packed two travel-sized vials of Dr. Hauschka's Lavender Bath (a Natural Health Magazine award winner). It's important to note that this has been discontinued since they were given to me but replaced with the very similar Moor Lavender Calming Bath Essence.

After a long days travelling and the depressing hotel suite these wonderful smelling lavender bath oils were just what was needed. I ran a warm bath, emptied both vials into the water (I needed a double dose to recover!), and relaxed in the lavender-scented washroom for a good hour or more. It was heavenly.

Lavender has calming, relaxing and soothing properties (plus it smells divine) but the scent isn't limited to the water and air with this product, it also fragrances your skin. It's the ideal oil to use before bed or after exercise. Needless to say I slept well that night, despite the bed being incredibly creaky!

Lavender Bath is a versatile product. Not only can you use it the way I did but if you add a couple of drops to a basin of water it makes a calming rinse for your face after cleansing – as an added benefit lavender is supposed to be good for tackling rosacea and sensitive skin conditions.

Obviously you don't get fun bubbles or luxurious foam in the bath with these oils, but don't let that put you off. Your body and your senses will thank you for treating them to such a wonderful fragrance – when you feel deeply relaxed you'll look it, too, so there are beauty benefits to be had.

While it is expensive, a little oil goes a long way and Lavender Bath is a natural and ethical choice. It is also suitable for vegans. For me, though, the biggest selling point is the wonderful fragrance. So very calming and luxurious – I love it.
