Green People Vitamin Shower Gel (review)

Green People Vitamin Shower Gel
Green People make products which are full of natural (even genuinely organic), ethical, animal-friendly, fairly-traded and vegetarian-suitable ingredients. This has given them a very positive reputation in eco circles with a history of making natural products dating back nearly eighteen years.

While I've been very aware of the brand and its excellent principles I've not tried much for a couple of reasons. The practical reason is the price. This shower gel, for example, is nearly eleven pounds and you only get 200 ml. The superficial reason is brand identity. I find the Green People 'look' very bland and budget-like and when contrasted to the very non-budget price I'm turned off.

It's not as if Green People can play the holier than thou card, either, as there are other very eco-friendly brands that cost less. Admittedly few give 10% of their net profit to charity and fewer still boast the sheer number of certifications Green People do. Not all companies pay the large costs involved in getting these certifications, instead passing on these savings to the consumer, but that's something for another time.

This shower gel is full of lots of lovely natural ingredients (which as usual you can read in full at the bottom of this post). These include numerous vitamins, minerals and real essential oils. What's more interesting is what they don't include:

"Green People Vitamin Shower Gel is made without SLS/SLES, parabens, methylisothiazolinone, methylchloroisothiazolinone, phthalates, alcohol (ethyl alcohol, ethanol), colourants and artificial fragrances to bring you the purest shower gel that nature can offer."

And it works, too. This is the gentlest shower gel I have ever used, without exception. It cleanses brilliantly, lathering nicely and rinsing off effortlessly leaving my skin ever-so-slightly fragranced after use. It cleans without fuss or irritation and that's always welcome.

Ultimately, though, it's a bit too expensive for Average Joe to use every day unless he or she consistently searches for offers, and there don't seem to be too many of those around. (The best deal I could find was two pounds off.) Taking price out of the equation, though, leaves you with an effective if somewhat nondescript product that appeals for its sensitivity and ecology but little else.
