L'Oréal Elnett Satin Lumière Supreme Hold Hairspray (review)

L'Oréal Elnett Satin Lumière Supreme Hold Hairspray
I'm not going to sit here and claim that Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's ultra glamorous look as Elnett's brand ambassador can be achieved with a quick spritz of said hairspray (copious amounts of work and numerous products go into creating her looks!).

While her hair always looks amazing in the adverts, I'm going to focus on the hairspray basics: decent hold, non-crispy texture, a fragrance that won't choke me half to death, humidity resistance and a good shine.

Using The Spray
This is very easy once you've forced the spray button down to break the seal. (It took some effort!) It doesn't come out too quickly, helping you to avoid overloading your hair. The mist is ultra-fine – far finer than any non-aerosol I've tried – and it comes out in a decent sized cloud. It works best by first spraying your hair from above like a halo, then touching up parts that need extra hold. The drying time is extremely fast.

After Application
My hair remains soft even with a fair bit of product, which is excellent. It also lives up to its “infinite shine” promise by making my hair look like satin. My somewhat curly hair doesn't shine willingly, so I was very impressed. The hold, however, is disappointing. “Supreme hold” they claim. I say it's a medium hold at best. Also, I hate the fragrance. I think it's a horrid, choking concoction and I have to keep the window open - thankfully there are unfragranced versions.

At the End of the Day
The light texture allows extra applications throughout the day which won't weigh your hair down. This is a relief because I found repeat applications were sometimes necessary to hold my style in place. I'm really not impressed by the strength but the humidity resistance was OK. At least my hair looks very natural and it does brush out effortlessly.

Is it Worth it?
Yes, pretty much. The mist is so fine and easy to work with you can use this for all manner of hair styling duties. Unfortunately the strength isn't great but repeat applications will neither weigh your hair down or make it greasy. And it's good value, too, with the bigger 400 ml being even better value. If you like the smell, that's great, but thankfully L'Oréal sell an unfragranced version. I might try that in a stronger hold next time!
