Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume Dry Shampoo (review)

Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume Dry Shampoo

Along with Pantene's new dry shampoos, Proctor & Gamble launched another range of water-free hair cleaners under their Herbal Essences brand. What I was interested to know is how Herbal Essences' volumising version differs from Pantene's volumising version – if at all.

The ingredients are certainly very similar, but actually they're not identical. You can check out Pantene's ingredients at the end of this review. Herbal Essences promises a 1st day clean feel, with no water washing required and a lightweight finish.

They describe the citrus fragrance as luscious. I think it's horrible! It smells more like rotten fruits than citrus fruits and is far too potent. Pantene's scent is far preferable. Unsurprisingly the fragrance is artificial (like most of the rest of the product) but that's very common in dry shampoos.

At least it looks great; the bright orange packaging really sticks out on the shelves and there's only one language on the back in an easy-to-read, good size font making it easier for those with less-than-stellar vision. It's easy to use too, with a good spray and an invisible formula.

Spray on, massage in. That's all you need to do unless you like a smoother finish in which case you can brush it out with a bristle brush for smooth looking hair. The results are really impressive but it's noticeably not as good at adding texture as Pantene's rival product. It's by no means bad, though! The volumising quality is still present and correct.

Interestingly, it's cheaper than in-house rival Pantene's take. I also think it'll appeal to more people with it's softer texturising and volumising properties, so Herbal Essences could be onto a winner here. But I can't use it again because I really don't like the smell! For that reason I'll be shopping elsewhere but I'll totally understand if you're a convert.

Adds softer texture and decent volume
Foul fake citrus smell!
Disguises oily roots easily

Doesn't leave white marks

Cheaper than Pantene; great value
