Lavera Volume & Shine Hairspray Extra Strong Hold (review)

Lavera Volume & Shine Hairspray
When searching for a more natural alternative to the incredibly artificial aerosol hairsprays that dominate the market, your choice can be somewhat limited. So the following quotes about Lavera are reassuring:

"The Lavera Hair Care Range is 100% free from synthetic preservatives, perfumes, colourants, and mineral oil"

"100% pure vegetable oils, active plant agents and essences, 100% skin mild emulsifiers and surfactants."

My only experience with the Lavera brand is a lip balm (check out that review here). I wasn't massively impressed, to be honest, so I was interested to see how their haircare range compared!

This hairspray comes in a decent 150 ml size and is an easy-to-use, good sized spray bottle. The spritz itself is a wide, fine mist that covers large swathes of hair easily and quickly. So far so good.

Lavera Volume & Shine Hairspray
The performance isn't great, however. Extra strong hold? No. The hold is moderate at best and struggled to contain my wavy hair in even the most simple of styles. I wasn't impressed by the strength of this at all.

On the bright side, however, it didn't dry out my hair and I seemed to suffer from fewer frizzies than usual. Reapplying it throughout the day – unfortunately a necessary burden – didn't make my hair greasy, either.

Overall a disappointing product, then. While I'm seriously impressed by Lavera's eco-credentials, I'm not going to repurchase a hairspray if it can't hold my hair in place without repeated applications. The usability is good, though, and it leaves hair shiny and healthy looking. Every cloud has a silver lining!

Reassuringly natural and ethical
The hold isn't very strong
Gives hair a healthy shine
No volumising properties at all
Perfume is from natural essential oils
Quite expensive
