The Body Shop Aloe Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Roll-On (review)

The Body Shop Aloe Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
After using Dove's Pro-Age anti-perspirants I was inspired to look for a more natural alternative – something gentle on me and the environment but to be honest the search was pretty fruitless as genuinely pure deodorants don't have anti-perspirant properties and that will never do!

This is the best I could with my requirements: The Body Shop Aloe Anti-Perspirant Deodorant. It's created for sensitive skin and makes do without preservatives, colours and fragrances. Being a Body Shop product also means it's not tested on animals – few deodorant makers can claim that! I feel the need to point out that parent company L'Oréal continues to profit from animal testing.

The Body Shop Aloe Deodorant
Deodorants usually claim an efficacy period; the usual being 24 or 48 hours. This doesn't, but from my experience – in these cooler months – I find one day is the absolute maximum. From the moment I apply it after my shower at night, I find this loses its effectiveness after about 18 hours. It's not great, but it's tolerable, but in Summer I will use something else.

I like it, though, it's exceedingly gentle (a razor cut didn't sting at all when I used it) and being fragrance free it doesn't interfere with my perfumes which is great. It's also very easy to use, with a free-rolling ball to apply the light, quickly absorbed liquid.

At £8.00 per 100 ml it's a little on the expensive side (over twice the price of some rivals products), but it is a more natural choice than the mainstream. And the 50 ml bottle seems to be lasting quite well so all-in-all I think it's OK value for money.

It's still a product I can recommend, with some advisories. If you don't sweat or get stressed very often, or live in a predominantly cool climate, then this is perfect. I find the anti-perspirant properties aren't quite strong enough for me, but the deodorising aspect is absolutely fine.
