Organix Hydrate + Defrizz Kukui Oil Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

Organix Kukui Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

I like Organix's products, I've used them before, but this Kukui Oil collection (to hydrate, protect against humidity, add gloss and defrizz) is new to me. But it's not new to my Mother who actually bought the shampoo and conditioner I'm using now. She didn't like them much; they knotted up her very fine hair. My hair is much thicker and coarser, so it'll be interesting to see how I fare.

Shampoo
This is pretty good. It's a golden looking, sweet-smelling cream. It foams up well (but it's SLS and SLES free!), and feels very luxurious. My hair seems to take to this shampoo very well, and after rinsing – it washes out easily enough – it feels relatively soft, clean and refreshed.

Conditioner
This also feels luxurious and far pricier than its price tag would suggest. After squeezing excess water from my hair I smoothed it from tips to roots (not too much on the roots, mind!). I put my hair up and leave it for the required five minutes while it does its job. This also rinses out well and leaves my hair feeling noticeable softer, sleeker and well nourished.

Afterwards
Surprisingly, my hair doesn't feel weighed down despite feeling very conditioned and looking glossy. It does, however, start to look a little oiler earlier, but I can get a full day out of it before it's noticeable. Bearing in mind how humid it has been here recently, my hair has held up well. I'm very impressed.

Natural
While the shampoo is SLS and SLES free and there's not a paraben in sight (woo hoo!), both shampoo and conditioner are made with silicones and have numerous colours and artificial perfumes added. Organix is NOT cruelty-free, though (they sell in China where animal testing is mandatory) so while the ingredients make-up isn't bad, the ethics need some work.

Summary
Both products impressed me but that might be because my thicker hair works well with these formulas. My Mum isn't the only fine-haired beauty to struggle to find haircare that works for them, but for the rest of us this collection isn't a bad choice – especially in high humidity climates! If that doesn't seal the deal, maybe the price will? Check out the good value stats below...
