Nelsons Pure & Clear Purifying Daily Facial Wash (review)

Nelsons Pure & Clear Purifying Daily Facial Wash
In my experience, other than using sunscreen daily, the most important aspect of anyone's skincare regime is not which serum you use, how you massage in your moisturiser or how many facials you have. I think it's much more basic than that; it's having an excellent cleanser.

For some it might mean finding that perfect nourishing cream, for others regular exfoliation is required, for me it's a good, thorough cleansing gel. Cleansing gels, like this one, require water and a good lather to clean-up your face. This suits my combination/oily skin type perfectly, but some can be too drying – this one definitely is not!

The consistency is unusual – a watery jelly – but it doesn't drip everywhere.  It's a seaweed based formula with numerous plant extracts such as tea tree, arnica, hypericum, calendula and essential oils such as lavender and grapefruit. It lathers up nicely and felt refreshing on my face. As mentioned I didn't find it at all drying, nor did it sting; instead my face was thoroughly invigorated and clean feeling. After drying off there was still no tightness; it's surprisingly gentle!

A lot of the gentleness probably comes down to the lack of potential irritants such as parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate, PEGs, lanolin, silicone and mineral oils. Not forgetting it's also free from artificial colours and perfumes. This wash also does not contain any endangered plant species nor has it ever been tested on animals. The packaging is fully recyclable.

Is it worth nearly eight pounds, though? Yes. If you have skin which is normal, combination, oily or flat-out blemished then this is the perfect cleanser to start and end your day. Contrary to popular opinion, you must not scrub an oily face with harsh ingredients, gentleness is key and this delivers.

Bearing in mind how important I think cleansing is in our daily skincare routines, I'd rather spend a bit more on a good cleanser like this than on expensive face treatments. It is absolutely worth the money and I'd recommend it to anyone.
